Evaluation of Changes in Catalase and Malondialdehyde Antioxidants in the Blood of Cats with Felinecalcivirus Disease in Tabriz, Iran

Bahram Amouoghli Tabrizi1* and Pouria Lorzadeh2

Feline calcivirus is one of the most important and common respiratory diseases in cats. In the present study, the frequency of calcivirus disease in cats referred to clinics in Tabriz and changes in blood antioxidants in cats involved in calcivirus disease were studied. For this purpose, 50 cats referred to the clinic, including 25 healthy cats as controls and 25 cats infected with calcivirus as a treatment whose disease was diagnosed by the Randox commercial kit according to the manufacturer's instructions were selected. Then blood samples were taken and changes in the amounts of antioxidants including catalase and malondialdehyde were checked out. The results showed that the levels of antioxidants activities after blood sampling in the treatment group showed a significant decrease compared to the control group. The activity of catalase enzyme in the control group of cats was 52.9(k/grHb) and in the cats of the treatment group was 40.64(k/grHb). The activity of malondialdehyde enzyme in the control group was 1.68(nmol/ml) and in the cats of the treatment group was 2.3(nmol/ml). This decrease in the activity of catalase and increase malondialdehyde enzymes in the treatment group was significant at the level of 5% probability.
